Random Stuff Friday ... and a CONTEST!

1. Little Greeny's back and better than ever. The extra investment in the Geek Squad warranty stuff = Best. Plan. Ever. So now she's got a better hard drive (because they weren't sure what I had, so the guessed and I ended up with an upgrade.) AND they backed up my stuff for free! (normally they charge $100). And the whole thing only took about 25 hours, from drop off until I was able to pick up. Yay! Go Geek Squad.

2. Holy crap, I had no idea that being without my computer for a day would totally throw off my jive so much. But it did. It totally felt like I've been off my game this week - not tweeting like normal, not facebooking or blogging or anything! I feel like I've ended up so disconnected! So now I feel like I have to make up for it. We'll see if I actually can.

3. In addition to my lack of social networking this week ... I have barely been writing. Or rewriting. Or revisioning. Like I said. So off my game. I need to get my crap together. Hoping this 3-day weekend will help - at least on the R & R side (that's rest and relaxing, not rewriting & revisioning). Should help me get my game back right? Let's hope.

4. Last night was crit group night. Can I just say how much I adore my crit group? Love these ladies. Yes, that's right - Ali, Sheralyn and Nichole, I'm talking to you!! They're a ball to hang out with and brainstorm with and they always know just how to keep you grounded. As I've said on Twitter, I'm not exactly uber-techie, hence the shipping Little Greeny off to Geek Squad when she got sick. So this is a little bottle cap magnet one of my crit buds gave me - it's even green to match Little Greeny.

5. Speaking of crit group, we were talking about weird food. I don't remember how the topic came up, but I've eaten my fair share of bizarre foods (by American standards). My family's originally from Southeast Asia and there's loads of things that seem relatively normal to me, but according to some people, are bizarre. Cow tongue, tripe, chicken feet, balut (embryo eggs) and duck blood, just to name a few things.

AND because I decided just right this moment that I want to give something away, all you have to do is leave a comment and tell me what the MOST BIZARRE THING you've ever eaten is and you could win this lovely notebook, along with some Sharpie pens, very normal things for all writers to have. And that's not all! I'll even throw in one of our family's favorite treats: YanYan crackers with chocolate-hazelnut dip! Seriously - the treat is YUM!

And because there's totally yum foodage involved and some countries are so not down with the yum, I have to keep this a USA only contest. Sorry to the international peeps. I'll leave this contest open until, oh, let's say 10:00 pm Mountain time next Tuesday, September 21. The last day of summer. *sigh* I'll pick a winner with the help of random.org.

Oh, and if you decide you want to tweet the contest or FB it or whatev, let me know and I'll throw in an extra entry for you!

Okie dokie, all, have a great weekend!

That notebook is gorgeous!

The most bizarre thing I've eaten? Escargot. Mainly because I don't remember what I ate at the Peruvian restaurant I went to with friends one time.

Weirdest thing I've eaten? Hmmm...probably peanut butter & ham sandwich. They're delicious!

I just found the ultimate diet aid. This post! Ewwww is all I can say. ;)

I can totally relate to the lost of computer thing. I feel naked without mine. And not being able to obsessively check my inbox: not cool.

I've eaten chicken hearts before at Rodizio's. That's pretty gross. Congrats on the revival of Greenie. :D

Andouillette in France. Definitely not 'andouille' sausage. Never EVER again!

I know what it's like to be w/o a computer! I just went through the same thing... Hopefully R&R does the trick.

And yes, GORGEOUS notebook. I love a beautiful notebook, so count me in! The food does sound good too :)

ANTS!!!

I actually drank them, but still ... I could feel their lumpiness as they slipped down my throat. :)

Fun contest! I'm tweeting/FB'ing right now!

(And thanks for the CP love!)

I'm glad you got Greeny back and better than before even! Love that magnet. LOL. I seriously try to avoid bizarre foods. I'm really picky, I guess. So maybe the most bizarre thing I love to eat is ice cream with Ruffles. Yummy. (And not terribly bizarre.)

So glad lil' greeny is okay. And that bottlecap is hilarious!

The weirdest thing I've ever eaten...hmm. Probably calamari but that's actually not too weird. ;)

I like weird food...a lot. I love liver and chicken hearts and escargot and I eat onions raw. One of my favorite foods of all time is peanut butter and tomato sandwiches. I also like pickles with chocolate. It's like I'm constantly pregnant...!

One thing I don't like that I have eaten is beef tripe (cow stomach). Yeah, it's used a lot in Mexican and Chinese cooking, at least what I've head.

I've also eaten Haggis, the lovely Scottish meal all stuffed into a sheep's stomach. (Haggis is a dish containing sheep's 'pluck' (heart, liver and lungs), minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally simmered in the animal's stomach for approximately three hours. Most modern commercial haggis is prepared in a casing rather than an actual stomach.)

Oh, yum.

So...have I grossed you out yet? :)

I meant "at least what I've had, not head." :)

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't think trip and other such things are weird!

YES, a day without the computer is like a thousand nameless facebookless yesterdays. I'm glad you're up and running again girl!

Love you too, Windy. Strangest food? Hm. I may have to get back to you on that. But glad you got Little Greenie back. =) Now--back to #amwriting #amrevising!

I've been able to travel a lot, but thinking back, the food in Egypt and across Europe didn't seem strange to eat then or now. Haggis is delicious. My family wasn't exactly wealthy and my dad would hunt to get us through winter when I was a kid so pheasant, venison, elk - not bizarre in Utah. Gizzards, liver, heart - which I think are completely nasty... Fallafel, baba ganush, hummus - they seemed bizarre at the time, but now they're becoming popular everywhere. Honestly, I think you take the cake for bizarre, but then I haven't been to Asia yet. :D

Umm Yanyan sounds Awe-some! I watched a couple of food shows were they ate balut and I almost puked. But really, power to ya!

I once visited my grandmother in Europe and she decided to feed me lunch. She went into the garden and picked a handful of snails and proceeded to shell them for me. Yum. Not.

Also I've eaten ox tails. Many times. And actually they are yum. ;)

I grew up on a trout ranch and we've eaten some bizarre parts of a trout. Such as the eggs, and don't forget the cheeks!
